Bake sale & Coffee Morning
December 5, 2009
by Jack Jeffries
The student clubs of Rockwell College (Cashel) and Loreto Secondary School (Clonmel) decided in November that a bake sale/coffee morning was in order. The main reason was, of course, to raise funds and awareness for Operation Smile Ireland, but we also like exceedingly good cakes. With the help of Mrs. Ruth Farrell, December 5th was agreed upon and the strategic location of Cahir Parish Rooms was chosen as the venue.
The baking volunteer force stormed into action, with back up provided by the Mammies. On the day we had an array of sugary goodness for sale and consumption. Vast quantities of cake and coffee were enjoyed.
Our visitors on the day were happy to learn of Operation Smile Ireland and the work it does. They enjoyed viewing photos from previous missions and were delighted to recognise some local faces. It was a major success in promoting awareness of the charity.
As the event drew to a close, all left feeling a little bit fuller inside and a little bit more satisfied knowing that they had helped change the life of a child... one cake at a time.
